40116A faithful reproduction of Gar Wood's Race Boat from 1925, Baby Gar IV. The original boat was made famous by racing against the Twentieth Century Limited Train from Albany to New York City. It was built in Brant Lake, NY using modern construction methods, including an epoxy bottom and cold molded planking over oak frames. She is powered with a Liberty Vimalert V-12 engine with a displacement of 1650 cubic inches, coupled to a Capital transmission, very similar to the original power package. This design was the result of a collaboration of Chris Smith and Gar Wood, who worked together on the design of these racing boats at that time. Baby Gar IV was the last one built during their time together.
